Environmental rules

– Overflights restricted around UNESCO and sacred sites like Machu Picchu and Lake Titicaca – Protected rainforest and eco-regions may require special flight permits – Peru promotes sustainable travel practices, especially in the Amazon and Sacred Valley.

Travelling with pets

– Pets require a health certificate issued within 7 days, proof of rabies vaccination, and internal/external parasite treatments – Entry via Lima with prior coordination with SENASA – No quarantine if paperwork is in order – Some luxury hotels and eco-lodges are pet friendly, especially in Lima and Cusco areas.

Entry and visas

Visa free for up to 183 days for most travelers from the US, UK, EU, Canada, LATAM, Australia. Passport must be valid for at least 6 months upon arrival.

Arrival and departure

– Valid passport + onward ticket – No visa for short-stay tourism/business – Customs may inspect valuables or undeclared cash > $10,000 – Advance coordination required for private jet arrivals, especially at high-altitude airports like Cusco.

Approx. 5–8 hours from Miami, Houston, or NYC to Lima (direct flights).

Approx. 12–14 hours, often with one stop in Madrid, Amsterdam, or Paris.
