  • Before you fly

Environmental rules

Portugal promotes green aviation and carbon offsetting. Noise regulations apply at Lisbon and resort areas. Restrictions may apply near coastal parks and natural reserves (e.g., Arrábida, Douro, Madeira peaks).

Travelling with pets

EU rules apply: microchip, rabies vaccination, health certificate or pet passport. Entry via approved airports with no quarantine for compliant pets. Pet friendly stays are easy to find in Comporta, the Algarve, and Lisbon’s boutique hotels.

Entry and visas

Portugal is part of the Schengen Zone. Visa free for up to 90 days for citizens of the US, UK, EU, Canada, Australia, LATAM. Passport must be valid at least 3 months beyond stay.

Arrival and departure

Valid passport, Schengen visa if applicable. Customs for valuables or large cash amounts. Private jet operators must file flight plans and secure slot reservations in high season (especially Algarve & Madeira).
