Environmental rules

Protected airspace over national parks and wildlife reserves. Carbon offsetting is encouraged, especially for eco luxury brands and charter companies.SAF initiatives are limited but gaining attention in conservation-focused regions.

Travelling with pets

Import permit + veterinary health certificate + rabies vaccination required. Pets may be subject to quarantine upon arrival depending on origin. Entry via Johannesburg or Cape Town only. Few safari lodges allow pets, but luxury villas and city hotels are more accommodating with prior arrangements.

Entry and visas

Visa free for up to 90 days for citizens of the US, UK, EU, Canada, Australia, most LATAM countries. Passport must be valid for at least 30 days beyond stay and have two blank pages for entry stamp.

Arrival and departure

Valid passport + return or onward ticket. Customs inspection required for cash over ZAR 25,000 (~$1,300 USD). Yellow fever certificate mandatory if arriving from endemic areas. Private flights must file advance plans and comply with border control protocols.

Approx. 15–17 hours from NYC or Miami (typically with 1 stop in Europe or Middle East).

Approx. 10–12 hours direct from London, Frankfurt, Paris.

South Africa is private jet friendly, especially for luxury tourism and safaris: Ultra Long Range Jets (e.g. Global 7500, Falcon 8X) for intercontinental flights. Mid size & Light Jets (e.g. Citation Latitude, Phenom 300) for regional and lodge transfers. Main VIP airports: Cape Town (FACT), Johannesburg OR Tambo (FAOR), Lanseria (FALA), Kruger Mpumalanga (FAKN), Durban King Shaka (FALE), with FBOs. Where available, we can request fast track immigration and private transfers to safari lodges or wine farms.
